Certification

Many people ask about us about certification, credentialing, and what comes after completing the RCA and other CCAR training programs. There are many different answers to all these questions, depending in where you live and what your goals are.

Currently the CCAR Training Programs are able to be used towards certification in many states, however, we implore you to seek guidance from your local certification board to find out exactly what the requirements are for certification. In many cases, the training aspect is just ONE requirement. And, the Recovery Coach Academy is just one training that is required. Although you get 30 CECs for attending, most certifications boards require additional hours, in Ethics and/or other topics in order to round out your training.

There are three routes that we know about, and hope you will find information below to help you:

CCAR Recovery Coach Professsional Designation

NAADAC (National) Certification

NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals has a national certification called the National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS). This may be helpful for those who reside in a state that doesn't have local certification. All CCAR training programs have been approved by NAADAC, so you can utilize the CCAR trainings towards their training requirement.

State Certification

In many states certification is a process that includes training, experience and examination. As this is done locally by independent local Certification Boards these requirements will vary state to state. Many states have belong to an international reciprocity board (IC&RC) and use their standardized test and requirements. You can find out if your state is part of their network, and if so, they have information for candidates seeking that certification, including test prep materials.

For Maine Residents:
The Maine Recovery Coach Certification Board has launched their website and are currently accepting applications for Registered/Certified Peer Recovery Coaches.
